Apple Music will begin labeling AI-generated songs later this year, according to Stereogum, which cited reporting from The Hollywood Reporter and Variety.
The labels will appear as “Made With AI Labels,” and Apple Music said content providers will play an important role in identifying how material was created. The company said those providers are in the best position to know when AI Transparency Tags should be used.
According to the email reviewed by Variety, providers will be required to add AI Transparency Tags whenever AI was used to create a material portion of a song, including tracks generated by AI platforms. Apple Music defines AI-platform-generated content as material that is primarily derived from a generative AI service.
The announcement did not include a specific launch date on the platform. Other music services have taken different approaches, with Deezer and TIDAL labeling fully AI-generated music, while Bandcamp and Qobuz ban it outright.
