Anne Hathaway is sharing her reaction after Julie Andrews confirmed she will not return for Princess Diaries 3. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight published Aug. 17, Hathaway said the production team tried hard to bring Andrews back, according to E! News.
“We did push really hard to see if she would want to do it,” Hathaway said, adding that the franchise respects Andrews’ decision. She also said that if Andrews ever changed her mind, “we’re down,” but emphasized that the team understands her choice.
Hathaway said she has deep respect for Andrews and called her a major contributor to entertainment and to “our collective joy.” Andrews previously said in an interview published Aug. 10 that she would not be in the film and that the story would continue with Princess Mia.
For the third movie, Hathaway said she wants the project to be fun and to do justice to the original films. She said she hopes longtime fans will be able to share the experience with their children, and that the team is taking the time needed to build the film the right way.
