Anna Faris says taking a break from drinking has changed the way she thinks about fame and her own self-image, according to E! News.
During an Aug. 20 appearance on Chelsea Handler’s Dear Chelsea podcast, Faris said she once felt envious of people who found success in a different way. She added that she later came to appreciate that when people recognize her, they usually respond with a smile.
The House Bunny actress said she used to feel embarrassed by being known for playing “f--king stupid” characters on screen, but over time she learned to absorb the positive reactions that came with her work. When Handler suggested sobriety may have played a role in that shift, Faris agreed and called it “one of the many gifts” of quitting alcohol.
Faris said there is a connection between drinking and depression “for me, at least,” and noted that when it came to alcohol, she had to “take a step back and not self-sabotage.” She also said recently that she has been working through self-acceptance as a mother to her son Jack, who is 13, and that she hopes future generations do not feel the same pressure to be perfect.
