Amy Winehouse’s mother leads tributes on 15th anniversary of her death

Amy Winehouse’s mother, Janis, has led tributes to the singer on the 15th anniversary of her death, saying in an interview with The i that her daughter was “a victim of her own success.”

Winehouse was found dead at her home in Camden, North London, on July 23, 2011, aged 27. Her death was later ruled to have been caused by accidental alcohol poisoning, according to the report.

Janis said Amy struggled with confidence and believed alcohol helped ease pain, adding that addiction can be difficult for others to understand. She also spoke about her grief, saying she keeps going by focusing on day-to-day life.

The Winehouse family took part in a tribute event at Camden Market on Sunday, July 19, where a free concert celebrated Amy’s life and the work of the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which supports young women recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.

Other tributes also appeared on the anniversary, including a post from Tony Bennett’s official account sharing a clip of their duet “Body And Soul.”
