Brandon Flowers has spoken with NME about making what he calls his most personal solo album yet. The Killers frontman said the new record, Thrasher, draws on early childhood memories and the darker parts of his upbringing.
The album, due out Friday, August 21, was recorded in Nashville and features longtime collaborators Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado, along with guitarist David Rawlings, pedal steel player Bruce Bouton and harmonica player Charlie McCoy. Flowers said the project is rooted in country music he heard growing up in Utah, including Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings.
Flowers told NME that he feels more able now to write from a more personal place. He said the record focuses more tightly on his own inner circle than his previous solo work or Killers albums.
He also said Thrasher is the first of two new solo albums, with a follow-up he described as more “romantic” and an answer to what he called the “loneliness epidemic.” Flowers also teased that a new Killers record is in the works.
