Will Smith has been pulled into a legal dispute involving his estranged wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and his former friend Bilaal Salaam, according to court documents obtained by E! News.
Salaam, who is also known as Brother Bilaal, is asking for Smith to testify in his lawsuit against Pinkett Smith. He accuses her of leading a smear campaign against him after an alleged confrontation at Smith’s birthday party in 2021.
In an email exchange attached to a July 15 motion filed by Pinkett Smith’s legal team, Salaam said he wanted to spend part of a call with her attorney discussing his request to depose Smith. Pinkett Smith’s lawyer responded that Smith is not part of the case and said no subpoena had been served on him.
Salaam’s lawsuit seeks $3 million and claims Pinkett Smith and her associates threatened him, demanded that he sign an NDA and later retaliated against him after he allegedly declined to help with crisis management following the 2022 Oscars slap incident. Pinkett Smith’s attorney denies the allegations and is also asking Salaam to turn over recordings and medical records tied to his claims, according to E! News.
