Walmart celebrated its remodel with a grand reopening event in Maricopa on July 31, drawing shoppers, employees and local residents to the store, according to InMaricopa.
The event opened with a color presentation by American Legion Post 124 of Guadalupe, led by vice-commander and chaplain Raymond Gonzales. Peoria resident Kinley Stratton sang the national anthem, and Gonzales offered a blessing for Walmart, the City of Maricopa and the wider community.
Store lead and event emcee Casey Childers said the day was a celebration of the remodeled store and the associates, customers, community leaders and organizations connected to it. Mayor Nancy Smith also spoke, saying Walmart’s early investment in Maricopa helped the city during the recession and supported growth as the community expanded.
Store manager Jeff Rowand was recognized by employees for his leadership and dedication. At the close of the celebration, two local charities, Campbell’s Crew Cares and the Jayda Heart Foundation, each received $3,000 donations.
