Tommy Lee recalls injecting whiskey after running out of heroin

Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee spoke candidly about his former heroin addiction during a recent appearance on Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard, according to Billboard. He said he was looking back on a particularly dangerous night from the band’s late-1980s era.

Lee described running out of heroin while staying with his “bass player,” whom he did not identify by name. He said he and the other man ended up injecting Jack Daniel’s whiskey after the drugs were gone.

During the interview, Lee said the moment made him realize how serious the situation had become. He recalled thinking that they could have simply drunk the alcohol, but instead were shooting it, and he believed “somebody’s gonna die.”

Lee also said Motley Crue entered rehab and group therapy in the late 1980s as they worked on their fifth studio album, Dr. Feelgood, which was released in 1989. He said the band relocated to Vancouver, B.C., while trying to stay sober together, and added that sobriety has remained an ongoing process for him.
