Tom Morello is set to release a new solo album, Everyone Gets Everything They Want, on Sept. 25 through Mom + Pop Music, according to Rolling Stone. The record includes production from Tyler Smyth, Carl Restivo, Zakk Cervini, Dan Carey, and Sam Nelson Harris, along with guest appearances from Serj Tankian, Kneecap, Beartooth, and Morello’s son, Roman Morello.
Morello has now released “Date Night” as a preview of the album. The song is based on the true story of three young Dutch women who worked as spies, saboteurs, and assassins against the Nazis during World War II.
In a statement, Morello called the track anti-racist, anti-fascist, and anti-Nazi, saying it is meant as a “which side are you on?” song. He also said that Roman Morello wrote the riff for the track.
“Date Night” is the second song Morello has shared from the album. He previously released “Adjourn It,” which also features Tankian and Roman Morello and takes aim at racism and anti-immigrant bigotry. Morello recently finished touring with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, performed at Newport Folk Festival last weekend, and is scheduled to play Louder Than Life in Louisville on Sept. 19.
Morello also announced the Power to the People Festival, a one-day event set for Oct. 3 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. The lineup includes Dave Matthews, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen, Joan Baez, Public Enemy, Killer Mike, Brittany Howard, Dropkick Murphys, Jack Black, Serj Tankian, Grandson, the Neighborhood Kids, Taylor Momsen, Matt Cameron, the Linda Lindas, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, and a DJ set by Shepard Fairey.
