Ariana Grande has introduced a new alter ego named Pepper in a teaser for the visual connected to her upcoming album, Petal, according to Billboard.
In the black-and-white clip shared Tuesday, Grande’s character walks into a waiting room and tells a receptionist, “Hello, I’m Pepper. I’m here for the audition today.” The receptionist responds that many others are waiting and tells her to take a number.
The teaser does not say what Pepper is auditioning for, but it ends with a release date for Petal on Friday, July 31. It also notes that the project was shot entirely on VistaVision, a widescreen format often linked with films from the 1950s.
The new rollout appears to continue Grande’s approach to building a cinematic world around her music. Her 2024 album Eternal Sunshine was paired with videos and a short film that featured a character named Peaches.
So far, fans have heard one song from Petal, “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, according to Billboard.
