The Mountain Goats have managed to make a recent song about opening for Candlebox come true, at least for a couple of shows. According to Stereogum, the band just released “Candlebox,” a new single from their upcoming album Days, only six days before the touring news arrived.
In that song, John Darnielle sings from the viewpoint of a fictional band that gets the chance to tour with Candlebox. Now the real Mountain Goats will open two dates on Candlebox’s newly announced fall tour.
Those stops are scheduled for Sept. 17 at the Pageant in St. Louis and Sept. 19 at Belterra Casino Resort in Florence, Indiana. Stereogum notes that the rest of Candlebox’s tour will feature rotating openers.
The article points out that the Mountain Goats will not be on the kind of long run described in the song, which imagines a lengthy stretch on the road with Candlebox. Still, the band ended up doing exactly the thing they had just sung about.
