Standing on the Corner have announced a new album, SOTC (“II”), which is set to arrive September 11 through XL, according to Pitchfork.
The release follows the group’s surprise upload of Standing on the Corner: II to YouTube last month. Pitchfork notes that the earlier version featured appearances from Gang Starr’s Big Shug, Danny Brown, Styles P and poet Sonia Sanchez, while the press release for SOTC (“II”) lists several collaborators, including Solange.
Other guests on the new album include the Warlockettes, Ladybug Mecca, Bubba Dupree and Claudette Ortiz. The label did not explain how the new version differs from the earlier release.
The group also shared the single “Mr. Postman, Wait!” along with the tracklist for the album. Pitchfork’s reporting suggests the unusual release situation may be tied to sample clearance issues, though that has not been confirmed.
