Sienna Spiro appeared on The Tonight Show to perform her song “Great Expectation,” bringing a live band and two backup singers with her on stage, according to Rolling Stone.
The British singer delivered a soulful, emotionally charged version of the track, which is featured on her debut album, Visitor. The album was released earlier this month.
Rolling Stone noted that the song’s live staging echoed the music video Spiro released on the day the album came out, including the red and white backdrop used in both presentations.
Spiro has said “Great Expectation” was inspired by a time she spent in New York talking to someone who kept promising to visit but never did. She explained that the song eventually became less about that person and more about the idea of expectation itself and the disappointment it can bring.
This was not Spiro’s first time on the late-night show. She previously performed “Die on This Hill” on The Tonight Show in January, and host Jimmy Fallon praised her on air, saying, “You are fantastic!”
