The San Diego Zoo has announced the birth of a female hamadryas baboon named Makeda, according to UPI Odd News.
Makeda was born on June 25 to mother Anakin and father Lex. The zoo said she is doing well and is under the attentive care of her parents.
In a news release, the zoo noted that infant hamadryas baboons cling to their mothers by holding onto their hair during the first three weeks of life. The zoo also said the babies have pink skin and black hair until they are about one year old, when their hair turns brown like adult baboons.
Makeda is now visible to the public at the African Rocks exhibit, where she has begun exploring and playing on her own.
