Sam Fender and Olivia Dean have broken the record for the longest-running UK Number One single of all time with their track “Rein Me In,” according to NME.
The song has now spent 19 weeks at the top of the UK Official Singles Chart, passing Frankie Laine’s “I Believe,” which held the previous record with 18 weeks at Number One across three separate runs in 1953. That mark stood for 73 years.
According to NME, “Rein Me In” was released more than a year ago and took 35 weeks to reach the top of the chart, finally hitting Number One in February 2026. It is Fender’s first chart-topping single.
The track has also returned to Number One four times during the same chart run, making it the only song in UK chart history to do so. It has spent 58 consecutive weeks in the UK Top 40 and 31 straight weeks in the Top 10, which NME says is the longest Top 10 run since charts began.
The song has also seen success internationally, including Number One runs in Ireland and strong chart performances in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the US. The pair also won Song of the Year at the BRITs 2026, while Fender and Dean have picked up additional major awards this year.
