Reid Scott is leaving Law & Order during the show’s upcoming 26th season, according to E! News. Scott has played New York City detective Riley since season 23.
Sources told E! News that Riley’s storyline will wrap up near the start of the new season before Scott exits the NBC drama for good. The show is expected to bring in James Badge Dale, though details about his character have not yet been shared.
Scott said in a 2024 interview with Town & Country that joining the series had been a long-time goal. He said many of his actor friends had appeared on the show before him, and he had spent years hoping for a role in the Law & Order universe.
After landing the part, Scott said he was glad to check the experience off his bucket list and described the work as fast-paced and demanding. He also said he was grateful for the chance to be part of Dick Wolf’s franchise, even if the role was only temporary.
