A new self-serve bakery in Rancho El Dorado is serving up sweets from a front-porch cart and operating on the honor system, according to InMaricopa.
Golden Lotus Confections was started by Sierra Strawder, a full-time working mom in strategy and project management who wanted a creative outlet outside of her day job. Strawder said she had been painting around the house and looking for another hobby to channel that energy into.
The bakery is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Customers can pay using Zelle, Cash App, Venmo or a cash box by the front door. A Ring doorbell is also available if anyone needs help.
Every Sunday, Strawder introduces that week’s Flight Club theme. This week features coffee house-inspired flavors such as espresso toffee and salted caramel cookies, along with cake pops in flavors like vanilla bean frappuccino and cinnamon toast crunch. Next week’s theme will be apple orchard, with treats including caramel apple, apple crumble, snickerdoodles and chocolate chip cookies.
Strawder said her business has been operating since May and is licensed through the cottage program. She can ship within Arizona, but current cottage program rules do not allow out-of-state shipping unless she moves into a commercial kitchen. Strawder says she hopes to expand Golden Lotus Confections nationally and eventually hire her family on salary.
