Prue Leith says a recent migraine attack landed her in the hospital after she temporarily lost the ability to speak clearly and see normally. The Great British Bake Off host shared the details in her September column for The Oldie, according to E! News.
Leith wrote that the episode began in a familiar way, with vision changes before her speech became a jumble of disconnected words. Her husband, John Playfair, grew concerned and called for help when it became clear this was more serious than her usual migraine.
According to Leith, she was assessed for a possible stroke over the phone and then taken in for more care because of concern about mini-strokes in older people. At the hospital, her speech returned to normal and a CT scan came back clear, allowing her to leave at 2 a.m.
Leith said she has had similar neurological symptoms before and recalled an early migraine episode that caused her words to come out wrong. She also thanked the hospital staff for their kindness and said she and Playfair even managed to laugh off the cafeteria meal they were given that night.
