A previously unheard David Bowie demo titled “Today” has been released from the upcoming 1965 Shel Talmy Recordings album, according to NME.

The song is one of several unreleased tracks on the project, which is set for release on September 18 through Parlophone. The recordings were made in 1965, before Bowie adopted the David Bowie name and while he was still known as Davie Jones.

The album features work done with producer Shel Talmy, who was known for his work with The Who and The Kinks. It also includes contributions from pre-Led Zeppelin Jimmy Page, The Yardbirds and Nicky Hopkins.

NME says “Today” is a stripped-back, melancholy ballad about heartbreak and lost love. The release follows the earlier unveiling of another unheard track from the album, “I Want Your Love.”

The collection also includes songs Bowie later revisited in his career, including “You’ve Got A Habit Of Leaving” and “Baby Loves That Way,” which he re-recorded with his Glastonbury band for the 2021 album TOY.
