Pete Davidson is showing off a dramatic new look for his upcoming film Tommy Karate. In a first image released July 23, the Saturday Night Live alum appears in character as mobster Tommy Pitera, according to E! News.
The black-and-white photo, shared by director Justin Chon on Instagram, shows Davidson with a serious expression, brushed-back hair and a dark suit. Chon joked in the caption that Davidson was “all growns up now” and said he was excited for audiences to see his work in the role.
Davidson will portray Tommy Pitera, a member of the Bonnano crime family who was nicknamed “Tommy Karate” because of his martial arts skills, according to the report. New York prosecutors described Pitera as a “ruthless killer” during his 1992 trial, alleging he dismembered bodies and buried them in Staten Island, the New York Times reported.
Pitera, now 71, denied the accusations but was later convicted of six murders and supervising a drug operation. He received a life sentence.
Davidson has said the project has been in development for years and called it a dream role in a statement to Deadline earlier this year.
