State Route 347 remains closed in both directions this morning after a pedestrian was struck and killed, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
DPS spokesperson Warren Trent said a male pedestrian was hit by a vehicle around 4 a.m. in the northbound lanes near milepost 187, just south of Maricopa Road, as he tried to cross the highway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said the closure is in place between Interstate 10 and Riggs Road while investigators process the area. Northbound traffic is backing up to Gila River Bridge, and drivers are being routed to Riggs Road.
There is no estimated time for the highway to reopen, according to DPS.
