Outer Banks is set to wrap up with its fifth season on Aug. 20, according to E! News. The Netflix series, which launched in 2020, has followed John B, Sarah, Kiara, JJ, Pope and Cleo as they chase treasure while dealing with conflict from the wealthy Kooks.
Creators Shannon Burke, Jonas Pate and Josh Pate said the show was always meant to be a five-season story. In a message shared on the Outer Banks Instagram in November 2024, they said they imagined a mystery that would unfold over five seasons of adventure, treasure hunting and friendship.
Chase Stokes, who plays John B, said he is glad the series will end on “the right note.” After filming wrapped last December, he told People he felt grateful for what the show had given him and said it had checked off more career goals than he expected.
E! News also shared a few behind-the-scenes details from the early days of production. Stokes said much of the cast lived near each other in Charleston, South Carolina during season one, and he recalled weekends filled with games, music and food. The article also noted that Hurricane Dorian forced the production to evacuate during filming, and that one of the show’s most memorable romantic scenes nearly did not happen because of rain.
