Ontario police warn residents not to bring grenades to stations

Police in Ontario are urging residents not to bring explosives to police stations after an unexploded World War II grenade was turned in at an Ottawa detachment.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police, a resident brought the grenade to the OPP Detachment in Ottawa on Friday. In a social media post, OPP East Region said doing so could put the person carrying the item and anyone nearby in danger.

Officials advised that if someone finds a suspected explosive, they should leave it where it is and contact authorities with the location.

The police said their Explosives Disposal Unit will then respond and safely dispose of the item.
