Morrissey has shared a personal tribute to his former manager Peter Katsis following Katsis’ death last Thursday at the age of 69, according to NME. Reports cited in the story say Katsis died from complications of congestive heart failure.
In his message, Morrissey described Katsis as “a very unusual star” and said he was “an adventurer who enjoyed biting off more than most people could collectively chew.” He also said Katsis was unusually well liked for a music manager and remembered him as someone who brought energy and momentum to the work they did together.
Morrissey added that Katsis supported him during a difficult period after his mother died in 2020, saying Katsis rushed to his side and introduced him to producer Andrew Watt. He said that led to the quick recording of “Bonfire Of Teenagers,” though the album remains unreleased.
Katsis, a Chicago native, managed artists including the Smashing Pumpkins, Backstreet Boys, Snoop Dogg and Jane’s Addiction. Smashing Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan also paid tribute, calling Katsis a close friend and crediting him with helping push the alternative music movement forward.
