A monsoon storm over Maricopa last month delivered more than just rain, according to InMaricopa. Drivers on State Route 347 saw blowing dust and vivid purple-pink skies as a haboob moved across the highway.
In the storm’s path, visibility dropped to near zero and some motorists pulled over onto the shoulder to wait for conditions to improve. The scene was captured on July 13, 2026.
The photos and report appeared in the August issue of InMaricopa. The storm is one example of how monsoon season in the Sonoran Desert can bring dramatic weather as well as hazardous driving conditions.
