A Nebraska family has been reunited with their missing dog after he was found at a truck stop in Indiana about 642 miles from home, according to UPI Odd News.
Inmaculada Jackman of Lincoln said the family’s dog, Chong, escaped in 2021 and they never stopped looking for him. She told KOLN-TV that they kept checking their old neighborhood and driving around in hopes of spotting him.
The search ended when a friend shared a Facebook post from the Hendricks County Animal Shelter in Indiana. The shelter said Chong had been found outside the Loves Truckstop in Pittsboro.
Jackman said there was a complication because Chong had been microchipped by someone else in Lincoln after he got out. After the required waiting period, the shelter put him up for adoption, and Jackman drove to Indiana with Chong’s brother, Cheech, to bring him home. The shelter said Chong recognized both his owner and his brother when they were reunited.
Jackman said the family is simply glad to have him back and urged others not to give up hope.
