Mick Jagger says there’s “nothing good” about getting older

The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger says he sees “nothing good” about getting older, pushing back on the idea that age automatically brings wisdom.

In a recent appearance on The New York Times’ podcast The Interview, the 82-year-old said ageing is not particularly pleasant and argued that people do not necessarily become wiser with time. “You don’t get wisdom. You forget everything,” he said, according to NME.

Jagger also said that age makes everyday physical activity harder, adding that he has to be more careful than he used to be. He said more than six decades of fame has also made his life feel different from most people’s, noting that it can create a sense of disconnection from others.

Asked how he stays grounded, Jagger said he tries to do normal things, like walking around on his own. He also said he wants Rolling Stones concerts to give fans a break from their worries rather than turn into political lectures.

The comments come after the Stones released their 25th studio album, Foreign Tongues, on July 10. Jagger has also said he has already started writing new songs and hopes the band will play live again in 2027.
