Tenisha Warner, the widow of actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, is speaking publicly about her grief one year after his death, according to CBS News. She also filed a lawsuit against Malcolm-Jamal Warner's mother, Pamela Warner, in her role as successor trustee of the Warner family trust.
The lawsuit seeks to recover at least $1.2 million from the trust and says Malcolm-Jamal Warner did not buy and maintain a $1 million term life insurance policy on his life, or on Tenisha Warner's life, as the couple's premarital agreement allegedly required. Malcolm-Jamal Warner died in Costa Rica at age 54 while on vacation with his family.
In an exclusive interview with CBS Mornings before the lawsuit became public on Monday, Tenisha Warner said the family is still grieving and called the loss the biggest they have faced. She said her energy is limited at times and that her first priority is her daughter.
In a statement released through her spokesperson, Tenisha Warner said she had spent the past year trying to privately settle her husband's estate and honor his last wishes. She said Malcolm-Jamal Warner intended to provide for her and their 9-year-old daughter and had been close to finishing a new estate plan before his death.
Pamela Warner responded in an Instagram post Monday night, saying she had no regrets and reflecting on wanting more time with her son. CBS News said it had reached out to her attorneys for comment and had not heard back.
