Tom Morello has launched the Mary Morello Memorial Project in tribute to his late mother, Mary Morello, according to NME. Mary Morello died earlier this month at the age of 102.
In announcing the project on July 20, Morello said the family wanted to preserve her legacy of compassion, courage and service. He asked friends, family and others who knew her to help support the causes she cared about during her life.
The memorial project will raise money for groups including the UFW Foundation, Doctors Without Borders, The Midnight Mission, Jail Guitar Doors, Orphans Of The Storm, All Chicago, Corazón for Cuba, the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund and the Center For Native American Youth. More organizations may be added later, according to the report.
The family also encouraged people to take direct action before October 1, which would have been Mary Morello’s 103rd birthday. Morello urged people to volunteer, protest, speak out, and support others in their communities in the spirit of his mother’s lifelong activism.
