Mark Consuelos says there is one part of marriage he is not willing to negotiate: time with the family dog. During the Aug. 11 episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, he reacted to a Pennsylvania bill that would recognize pets as family members in divorce situations, according to E! News.
Consuelos joked that he would “stay in a loveless marriage” if it meant he could be with Lena every day. Kelly Ripa laughed at the comment and teased him that such an arrangement could be “done.”
The couple also imagined what being separated from Lena might feel like, with Consuelos saying he would lie awake wondering what she was doing. Ripa then joked that his sleepless nights would be caused by worrying whether “some other man” was petting her.
Lena is a Maltese and Shih Tzu mix that the pair adopted after a pet adoption segment on the show in 2021. The moment was lighthearted, but Consuelos and Ripa have also spoken openly about the sadness of losing a pet, including the death of their 17-year-old dog Chewie.
