Voting got underway Tuesday morning as polling locations across Maricopa opened at 7 a.m. for in-person primary voting, according to InMaricopa.
By late morning, one polling site had seen 27 voters by 11:30 a.m., volunteer John Collins said. He said poll workers expected the pace to increase later in the day, especially after people got off work.
Maricopa voters are deciding local races for City Council, Western Pinal Justice of the Peace and Western Pinal constable. Ballots also include party preferences for Congress, the Arizona Legislature, the Arizona Corporation Commission and state superintendent.
The polls are scheduled to close at 7 p.m., with the first unofficial results expected later tonight. Collins said volunteering at the polls gave him a new perspective on how elections work, and voters at the Maricopa Community Center said casting a ballot is an important civic duty.
