Veterans in Need will use an $860 donation from the Maricopa Moose and Duke’s Roadhouse to help at least three local veterans cover gas and groceries, according to InMaricopa.
The check was presented Monday night during bingo at the Western-themed restaurant. The Moose raised $430 from bingo proceeds, and Duke’s matched that amount.
A spokesperson said the money will go toward immediate needs as veterans work toward more stable long-term situations. It marks the second year Veterans in Need has received support from the Maricopa Moose.
According to InMaricopa, the Moose raises money for local charities through bingo as part of a year-round effort to support the community and its lodge charities. Donations through the program have topped $11,000, and the next beneficiary is expected to be the Maricopa Pantry.
Patricia Stillman, the Moose Heart of the Community chairperson, said the group is planning special bingo nights for the holidays, including a Halloween-themed event next week. Anyone who shows up in a costume or Halloween-themed clothing will get a free card to play.
