Local nonprofit Little Whiskers Animal Rescue is starting a new monthly gathering for people and their pets, according to InMaricopa. The inaugural Copa Yappy Hour Club is set for Wednesday evening at Roots Eatery.
The event will take place at 5 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month, with the location rotating between restaurants. Organizers say the goal is to give dog owners a place to socialize while also supporting the Maricopa Shelter Project.
The Maricopa Shelter Project is a donation-based effort to build what would become Maricopa’s first animal shelter. Little Whiskers president Brittney McCarthy said the event is meant to build awareness, strengthen community support and help move the project closer to reality.
Each Yappy Hour will come with a different theme and location. The first event at Roots Eatery has a Halloween theme, while the next two are planned for Nov. 18 at Brook lyn Boys Pizzeria with a turkey theme and Dec. 16 at Cold Beers and Cheeseburgers with an ugly Christmas sweater theme.
Organizer Kevin Okuma said the invitation is open to dog lovers as well as their pets. Little Whiskers also raises money for shelter expenses through other efforts, including T-shirts and calendars featuring Maricopa first responders, according to InMaricopa.
