Maricopa election night results show early leads, but no races decided yet

Maricopa voters began getting their first look at unofficial primary election results Tuesday night, but no local races had been decided as ballots were still being counted, according to InMaricopa.

The latest update Wednesday morning showed about 93% of precincts reporting. Seven candidates remained in the running for three Maricopa City Council seats, and the Western Pinal justice of the peace race was separated by just six votes.

Earlier Tuesday night, Tom Chapman held a narrow lead over Judge Patricia Glover in the justice of the peace race, while Bill Griffin led Tim Nuanes in the constable contest by a wider margin. In the city council race, the first unofficial results reflected early ballots and did not include all votes cast on Election Day.

Countywide turnout was just over 15% after the first ballot drop, and later totals showed 48,117 ballots counted among 289,237 registered voters in Pinal County, according to the Pinal County Recorder’s Office. More unofficial results were expected after additional ballots were processed overnight and Wednesday morning.
