Lindsey Vonn says recovery from Olympic crash will take time

Lindsey Vonn says her recovery from the crash that left her with a torn ACL, a broken ankle and a fractured tibia is still far from complete. Speaking with USA Sports’ Renee Montgomery at the 2026 ESPY Awards in New York City on July 15, Vonn said she still needs to have the metal removed from her leg and then be evaluated.

According to E! News, Vonn said the biggest challenge has been how long she was unable to move normally after the injury. She said she spent six weeks in a wheelchair and then about two and a half months on crutches.

The 41-year-old said she is now feeling better and is back on her feet. She even wore heels on the ESPYS red carpet, joking that while walking in them is not comfortable, it is possible.

Vonn also said she does not regret competing at the Cortina Milano Winter Games, even though she did not come away with the Olympic medal she wanted. She said the experience taught her a lot, and that getting through rehab meant keeping at it because there was no alternative.
