Lauren Laverne reveals diagnosis of rare blood and bone marrow disorder

BBC 6 Music presenter Lauren Laverne has said she has been diagnosed with smouldering myeloma, a rare blood and bone marrow disorder that can, in some cases, develop into blood cancer, according to NME.

Laverne shared the news on Instagram on Friday, saying the condition is currently asymptomatic and does not require treatment at this stage. She explained that she decided to speak publicly because talking about health challenges can help other people.

In her post, Laverne said the disorder is chronic and means her immune system is compromised. She said she will need regular monitoring, including blood tests, MRIs and bone marrow biopsies.

Laverne thanked her colleagues at 6 Music, her family and her GP, and said she is taking a couple of weeks off before returning to work as normal. The diagnosis comes after she previously revealed a cancer diagnosis in 2024, which was caught early and later given the all clear.
