L7 bassist Jennifer Finch has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer, the band announced Monday, according to Billboard.
The diagnosis comes two months after the all-women rock band said it would head out on its final The Last Hurrah Tour, which is set to begin Oct. 6 in San Diego. Finch will not be able to take part in the trek, and the band said she asked L7 to continue with the tour.
Frontwoman Donita Sparks said in a separate statement that the band was devastated by the news and is trying to protect Finch’s privacy while helping raise money for her care. Sparks added that Finch is family and that the community will rally around her.
Finch’s friends and family have also started a GoFundMe to help pay for treatment, recovery and ongoing care. The campaign says her cancer progressed quickly, led to multiple surgeries and left her with significant physical limitations.
According to the campaign, the funds will help with expenses such as physical therapy, in-home nursing, medical costs and legal fees.
