King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have unveiled “Alien Metal,” the title track from their upcoming EDM album, according to Pitchfork. It follows last month’s release of “Level 5” and offers another look at the band’s new direction.
The group’s 28th album is set to arrive later this summer on P(doom) Records. Pitchfork reports that the record was made with the modular synth setup the six-piece uses in its live shows, a rig the band calls “Nathan.”
Stu Mackenzie said the Eurorack rig changed the way he thinks about making music, adding that he wanted to set aside what he already knew and start over from scratch. He said he began exploring the setup after bandmate Joey Walker recommended it.
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are scheduled for three shows at Forest Hills Stadium in New York next month, followed by a “Rave Show” at Under the K Bridge Park in Brooklyn. The band also announced an Australian tour for October with stops in Thirroul, Sydney and Melbourne.
