Julia Jacklin has covered Sugar Ray’s 1999 hit “Every Morning” for Triple J’s Like A Version series, according to Stereogum.
In a video released with the performance, the Australian singer-songwriter said she picked the song simply because she likes it and has enjoyed it since she was a kid. She said the track has been with her for much of her life and described the cover as a way to connect with her younger self.
Jacklin also said she has always liked how energetic the song sounds and how it seems to start at full speed and keep that momentum throughout. She said the song makes her feel grateful to be alive and connected to the source of life.
The cover arrives ahead of Jacklin’s new album, The Gem, which is due out next month. Stereogum notes that she has also previously appeared in a different Like A Version installment and has watched other artists cover her own songs.
