Jimmy Webb is marking his 80th birthday with a new project built from songs he says were overlooked, unfinished or left unrecorded over the years, according to Billboard. The album, Yours For the Taking: The Found Songs of Jimmy Webb, is set for release Oct. 23 on Sun Records.
A preview of the record arrives Friday with the original demo of “Winter Clothes,” a song Webb once pitched to Frank Sinatra. Webb said the album reflects a kind of creative renewal, with older ideas revisited and finished with help from his wife, Laura Savini Webb, and younger people around him.
Webb told Billboard that “Winter Clothes” dates back to the early 1970s and was later revisited as a polished new recording featuring Graham Nash. The 13-track album was produced by longtime collaborator Fred Mollin and recorded in Nashville, New York and Los Angeles.
Other guests on the album include Beth Nielsen Chapman, Michael McDonald, Marc Cohn, Amy Grant and Justin Currie. Webb also said the project includes “I Miss the Mistakes,” featuring his son Cornelius Webb and Glen Campbell’s son Cal.
In addition to the new album, Webb plans to tour in November with dates in New York City, Boston and Roslyn, New York. He will also celebrate his official 80th birthday on Feb. 4 at the Palm Springs Cultural Center in California.
