Josh Radnor is opening up about where things stand with his How I Met Your Mother castmates more than a decade after the sitcom ended. In a recent appearance on the Half the Picture podcast, the actor said he and his former co-stars are “not even a little bit” close these days, according to E! News.
Radnor said he does not mean that in a negative way and added that he still has affection for Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders. He compared the experience of working on the show to college, saying the cast spent so much time together for so long that it was natural for life to pull them in different directions afterward.
Even so, Radnor said he has crossed paths with some of them in recent years. He noted that Hannigan attended his 2024 wedding to Jordana Jacobs, and that he has done podcast appearances with Harris and Smulders.
Radnor also said he and Segel exchange occasional texts about memories from set, though he has not seen him in a long time. He added that fans often imagine the three male leads spending time together in New York, but said their bond is more like family than a friendship they actively maintain.
During the interview, Radnor also reflected on the sudden fame that came with playing Ted Mosby. He said losing anonymity was unsettling and that he initially worried being so closely linked to the role could hurt his acting career.
