Jamie Lynn Spears is pushing back on the idea that her pregnancy caused Zoey 101 to end. On the Aug. 18 episode of the Momarchy podcast, she said that claim is a “misconception,” according to E! News.
Spears explained that production on the show’s fourth and final season had already finished before she became pregnant with her daughter Maddie, who is now 18. She said the season aired later, which is part of why fans have long connected the show’s ending to her pregnancy.
“That’s where people are confused,” Spears said, adding that the series was already wrapped and was not going to continue with another season. She also said, “My beautiful Maddie is not the reason the show ended.”
Spears said she and Maddie can laugh about the comments that still show up on TikTok blaming the teen for Zoey 101 being canceled. Spears later returned to the role of Zoey in the 2023 TV movie Zoey 102, and both Maddie and her younger daughter Ivey made cameos in the film.
