John Cusack is stepping into a new creative lane with his first graphic novel, Momo. In an interview with Variety published July 24, according to E! News, the 60-year-old actor said the project appealed to him because he could tell the story without the compromises that often come with making a film.
Cusack said he wanted complete control over the story and described the graphic novel format as a more direct way to bring it to life. He added that he enlisted artist Ignacio Noé to create the illustrations, and said neither his writing nor Noé’s artwork was edited.
According to the interview, Cusack said the project ended up feeling like a two-person work, built entirely by him and Noé. He also said he has long viewed graphic novels as especially cinematic, since they resemble a sequence of shots.
Cusack has largely stayed out of the public eye in recent years, but he is set to promote the book at San Diego Comic-Con in 2026.
