Jackson Olson says criticism that he has too much experience for Dancing With the Stars is, in his words, bananas. The Savannah Bananas second baseman addressed the pushback in a playful Instagram skit posted July 23, according to E! News.
In the video, Olson acted out a mock conversation with critics who suggested that his role on the dancing-focused baseball team gives him an edge. He used the iCarly song “The Joke Is On You” in the background while making the point that his experience on the field is not the same as ballroom dancing.
Olson then followed with a montage of his signature Savannah Bananas dance moves to show why he does not see himself as having a clear advantage in season 35. He captioned the post, “Yeah so the first rehearsal will be interesting.”
Even with the criticism, Olson appears eager for the competition. E! News reported that he has already reached out to season 34 winner Robert Irwin for advice, and Irwin encouraged him to lean into the process and trust his pro.
Irwin also shared advice for future contestants, saying that fully committing to the experience can make a big difference. The Dancing With the Stars season 35 lineup and pairings remain a major topic of interest as the show approaches.
