Jess Williamson announces new album A Mile South of Heaven

Jess Williamson has announced a new album, A Mile South of Heaven, which is set for release on October 9 through New West, according to Pitchfork. The project follows her 2024 album Time Ain’t Accidental.

The record was produced by Shooter Jennings at Sunset Sound in Hollywood. Williamson has also released the album’s first single, “Goodbye to All That,” along with a mini road movie for the track.

In a press release, Williamson said the song title comes from Joan Didion’s essay collected in Slouching Towards Bethlehem. She said she wrote the track as a goodbye to Los Angeles, though the song helped change her mind about leaving the city.

Williamson described the album title as a reflection on being close to the goals people set for themselves, even if they never fully arrive. The album includes 12 songs, among them “High Heels and Blue Jeans,” “Country Mile,” and “The Gem and Mineral Show.”
