Jenna Bush Hager explained why she was absent from the first and second hours of Today on Aug. 10, saying she had just returned from a family trip to Maine, according to E! News.
Speaking as Today With Jenna & Sheinelle began the show’s fourth hour, Hager said she had come straight from a flight and had been in Maine for her nephew’s baptism. She described the family event as especially meaningful.
Hager said she became emotional during the baptism while reading a poem by Mary Oliver in the same church where she has long attended services with her grandparents. She also noted that her children were baptized there.
She added that it was fun to have all of her cousins together. E! News noted that several other Today personalities were also off that morning, including Al Roker, Dylan Dreyer and Carson Daly.
