Police in the Netherlands ended up dealing with an unexpected animal call on Sunday after a resident in Middenmeer reported seeing a “kangaroo” near some soccer fields, according to UPI Odd News.
When officers arrived, they found the animal was actually a wallaby. Police said it was spotted hopping along a busy road and then led authorities on a chase through the city.
A veterinarian was eventually able to sedate the wallaby so it could be safely captured. The animal’s owner later arrived and said the pet, named Skippy, had gotten out the night before.
UPI Odd News reported that a Dutch law that took effect July 1, 2024, bans the buying and selling of pet wallabies, though animals owned before then may remain with their owners for the rest of their lives.
