Railway workers in England teamed up to rescue a tortoise that was found wandering near the tracks by Runcorn station, according to UPI Odd News.
Avanti West Coast said a passenger waiting on the platform noticed the tortoise and alerted officials. The company then worked with Network Rail to temporarily stop train service at the station so the animal could be safely recovered.
The rescue took about 10 minutes, after which normal train operations resumed. Avanti said the tortoise was estimated to be about 50 years old.
According to the report, the tortoise was taken to a local rescue center before being reunited with its owner. Both Avanti West Coast and Network Rail praised the quick response from staff involved in the rescue.
