Elle King Says Autism Diagnosis Helped Her Make Sense of Her Life

Elle King is speaking publicly about an autism diagnosis she says she received after filming Fox’s new game show Nation’s Dumbest, according to E! News.

In an interview published July 14 with Us Weekly, the singer said she realized “everything makes so much sense now” after learning she is autistic. King said she had been nervous before the show, joking that there was a chance she could end up being “the nation’s dumbest.”

King said she took two IQ tests and got a score of 132 on both, which made her feel better about how she might do on the program. She also said the diagnosis has led her to create “new kinds of safety barricades” in her life and focus on being around people who make her feel safe.

The Grammy nominee said the experience has helped her put her daily life in perspective and better appreciate her work as an artist and performer. King, who shares two children with partner Daniel Tooker, said she wants to stay present and enjoy whatever comes next.

King first mentioned her diagnosis in May, posting a video on Instagram with the caption, “good news is, im autistic,” according to E! News.
