Savannah Guthrie returned to Today on July 14 after a four-day absence that had some fans wondering why she was away. According to E! News, co-anchor Craig Melvin welcomed her back to Studio 1A and said she had taken some well-deserved time off.
Guthrie said she spent part of her break watching the quarterfinal matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. She also told Melvin that the France and Spain semifinal was set for later in the day, surprising him with how closely she had been following the tournament.
Her return came after earlier concern from viewers because Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, remains missing. Savannah previously took an extended leave from the morning show after Nancy was abducted from her Tucson, Arizona, home in January, before returning in early April.
Since then, Savannah has publicly appealed for anyone with information to come forward while largely staying away from coverage of the case. In June, after a ransom note sent to media outlets claimed her mother was dead, she again urged the public to help and said the family continues to live with agony as the search goes on.
